Former Wauseon School Secretary Steals More Than $7,000

Angela Spadafore, a former building secretary in the Wauseon School District, stole more than $7,000 from school vending machines, Dave Yost, auditor of the State of Ohio, said in a Tuesday, March 31, press release.

“You don’t have to shake the vending machine when you have the key,” Yost said.

“This was an outright theft from students and taxpayers alike.”

Spadafore was indicted on a single count of theft in office by a Fulton County Grand Jury on Dec. 15, 2014.

A guilty plea was entered into court records on her behalf on Jan. 2.

A sentencing hearing is set for Wednesday, April 15.

The state auditor office released an audit on Tuesday, indicating that between Fiscal Year 2013 (which started July 1, 2012) and October 2014, Spadafore stole between $7,019 and $7,819 from the vending machines.

Part of Spadafore’s job was to collect money from the machines and deposit it in the district bank account, Yost said.

Auditors determined during that timeframe, Spadafore deposited $3,834 in vending machine revenues.

But based on the amount of product purchased to refill the machines, and profit margins from prior years, the district should have received between $10,853 and $11,653.

The auditor office has issued a finding for recovery against Spadafore in the amount of $7,019.
