These instructions are not official IRS tax form instructions. They are for Free File Fillable Forms only. They explain how to use the most common Free File Fillable Forms, line-by-line. Although this program supports many forms and schedules, only the most frequently used forms and schedules are listed in these line-by-line instructions.

Form 1099/(all others)

The only 1099 form you'll need to transcribe into the program is Form 1099-R. If you have another type of 1099, read STEP 2 Section 1 and Section 2B about entering federal withholding from another type of 1099 document.

Notes

  1. This form has limitations you should view.
  2. "Done with this form" button - Refer to the User's Guide PDF for questions about it.
  3. Deceased taxpayer - You can enter "Primary Deceased" or "Spouse Deceased" and the associated date of death in the gray areas, at the very top of the form.
  4. You cannot enter "NRA" if your Spouse does not have an SSN or an ITIN. See the list of available Free File Fillable Forms.
